Maker Lab Play Program

The Maker Lab Play Program was a hands-on creative learning environment where children explored design, engineering, and storytelling through building and experimentation.

Over a five-year period, children aged 6–12 participated in open-ended projects where they designed, prototyped, and tested their own creations using simple materials, digital tools, and 3D printing.

The program encouraged children to approach challenges through playful exploration. Instead of following fixed instructions, participants were invited to imagine solutions, construct prototypes, test their ideas, and iterate on their designs.

Activities ranged from building mechanical structures and programmable robots to designing small architectural models and interactive objects. Children often worked collaboratively, sharing ideas and refining their creations through discussion and experimentation.

The Maker Lab environment emphasised curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving. By combining physical making with digital fabrication and coding, the program aimed to help children understand how ideas evolve from concept to working prototype.

Throughout the program, children presented their projects, explained their design decisions, and reflected on what worked and what they would change in future iterations.
